Animated Soccer drills for Agility-The Manchester United drill
The Manchester united drill was a drill I learned about when working with a local semi-pro/pro team. The drill is a very fun drill because it can be done in a team environment that fosters competition amongst team mates.
Drill Set Up for Teams
Set up two rows of cones of equal length and side by side. From the start to the end of the cones is 10 yards. The space from the first cone to the stack of cones is 5 yards. The stack on cones is 5 yards as well. Use 7 cones in the stack. Click here for more details on setup. Split the team up into two equal teams.
Individual Set Up and Use
If you choose to do the drill by yourself use the same set up but just one row of cones. To keep yourself interested do the drill with a stop watch and try to beat your time.
How to execute the Drill
To add an extra element of intensity, speed and fun make the drill a relay. Only do this once the athletes have mastered proper deceleration and acceleration technique. In the relay race the next athlete will start only after the preceding athlete has completely finished his/her repetition. If the athlete starts to soon there can be collision. The animated drill below will show how to do the drill. This animated version of the drill illustrates four options to do in your relay.
- Run forward around all the cones.
- Run forward then backward.
- Zig Zag through the cones.
- Ladder drill.
